Today we have a full moon.
What is all the fuss about a full moon?
How can the moon affect your mood?
Can the full moon affect your sleep?
Can the full moon cause chaos?
Lets look logically at these questions.
Although today may not be the day to do this?
Here are some tangible facts about the moon.
The moon controls the tides of the ocean.
The moon affects the life cycle and behaviour of many different animals.
The moon influences the stability of the earths rotation around the sun.
When you think about these three statements then it is understandable that the gravitational pull of the moon is powerful enough to have an influence on our internal world.
Some of the interesting things that can happen during a full moon phase.
Things can get a little more chaotic during a full moon and it is not just your imagination. It is documented that there are an increase in crime, aggravated assault, homicide, suicide, traffic fatalities and psychiatric emergency room visits during full moon.
Pre-electricity days it was said that nights surrounding the full moon would be a more active period because people would be able to enjoy more visibility at night. However according to modern research it has been found that participants in a study experienced less time in the deepest phase of sleep during a full moon. Participants also slept less and reported having the lowest quality of sleep during the full moon. This was despite being kept in a controlled environment in which they didn't know what time it was.
The full moon can also intensify your dreams or nightmares and can also leave you feeling quite anxious.
WHAT ARE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO DURING A FULL MOON?
Be kind to yourself
Ground yourself. Connect with nature.
Meditation is great during this time. It can only take 5 minutes to connect with yourself and get the benefits. There are plenty of small guided meditations all over the internet and youTube.
Explore deep breathing. Turn your phone off and sit and pay attention to the rising and falling of your abdomen as you inhale and exhale. You also only need a few minutes to get the benefits of deep breathing.
Eat a healthy meal and think about cleansing your body. Beautiful fresh unprocessed foods with lots of vegetables.
Dance or take a beautiful walk. Take advantage of your extra energy that you may have.
Sometimes it may just be rest that you may need. Listen to your body and take it as a time to really feel what is happening inside and around us.
I love this full moon quote:
THE MOON IS MAGIC FOR THE SOUL
AND LIGHT FOR THE SENSES.
ARE YOU LISTENING?
